“THE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLING AND I MUST GO” – JOHN MUIR
The Post House is perfectly placed, right in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park to enjoy all the splendour of the local area. Rich in history, wildlife and activities and with utterly majestic views everywhere you turn, there is no shortage of inspiration during your stay.
Kingussie train station is on the main line service from London to Inverness, and the sleeper train service also calls in at this station. We are just off the A9 if you are coming by road, and both Inverness and Edinburgh airports are within easy travelling distance.
Kingussie is a lovely, busy little town with tons of personality. Everything you would need for your stay can be found on our high street, from local produce, to wonderful places to eat, and crafts, gifts and momentos available from our local shops.
A real must see if you visit the area is the Cairngorm mountain itself. With fantastic hill walks, a funicular railway and skiing in season, it also boasts the most spectacular views across the mountains from the top.
Loch Morlich is a real favourite of our family, with sandy beaches, mountain views, water sports and a brilliant adventure playground. We also love the little cafe in the woods where you can watch the birds and, if you are lucky, red squirrels coming to feed while you eat.
Another family favourite is the Highland Folk Museum. It is a fantastic place to visit, full of history and brought to life by the actors playing the part of Highland folk back in the 18th Century in a township. It is a real must see for Outlander fans as it features heavily in one of the episodes in Series 1!
The area is teaming with fantastic wildlife and there is an even an RSPB reserve right on our doorstep. We have spotted pine martens, red squirrels, golden eagles, osprey and even a wildcat in the wild over the years and it is a wonderful spot to explore the area from.
Tromie Bridge is a great spot for a walk, a picnic or even a wild swim. Sprinkled with wildflowers and teaming with blueberries and chanterelle mushrooms in season, it is a lovely spot to visit.
A wonderful day trip and a real treat for any Harry Potter fans, is this fabulous railway journey from Fort William to Mallaig on the West Coast. You can travel in style on a steam train along the Glenfinnan viaduct featured in the Harry Potter movies.
